Ashmount's aim is to ensure our pupils receive the most from their education.
Consistent attendance (except in case of illness or other exceptional circumstances) is therefore of the utmost importance. Children must arrive at school punctually, before the start of the school day, to avoid disruption to their own learning and that of other pupils.
If for any reason your child cannot attend school, it is imperative that you let the school know on the morning of the absence.
In September 2008 we received a new government directive from Islington's Education Authority (CEA@Islington), which all schools in the borough must implement immediately. The guidance is as follows:
The law requires parents to ensure that their child attends school regularly, and this includes arriving on time each day.
The school cannot authorise term-time holiday unless under exceptional circumstances. If you withdraw your child for a holiday during term time and we have not agreed it, the absence will be unauthorised and could result in a penalty notice (a £50-£100 fine) or a summons to court.
If your child has 12 'late' marks in 6 consecutive weeks, or 15 unauthorised absences in 10 weeks, you may be issued with a penalty notice (a £50-£100 fine) by the Educational Welfare Service.
If you would like to discuss any of these points further, please contact the school office.
