In April 2010 we welcomed footballers Luther Blissett, Leroy Rosenior and Paul Mortimer from the charity 'Show Racism the Red Card' - a nationwide campaign to use football to combat racism. Year 5 and Year 6 hugely enjoyed the workshops - which covered the history of racism and practical suggestions about what we can all do to fight it - and the football coaching session afterwards. Thank you to our guests for a fun-packed and thought-provoking visit.

In November 2008 we were delighted to welcome David Lammy, MP for Tottenham and Minister of State for Higher Education, who opened our refurbished library and presented the first copy of Ashmount's very own book, We Are Writers! - a collection of stories and poems written by our pupils, inspired by their work to celebrate Black History Month. Thank you to Mr Lammy for his inspiring words, and well done to all Ashmount's pupils, who have put so much into their writing.

Clinical psychologist Dr Tanya Byron (House of Tiny Tearaways, Little Angels) visited Ashmount in July 2008 for a Q & A on Parenting and Early Years Learning. A large and enthusiastic audience learned about everything from sleep to self-esteem to sibling rivalry. We are very grateful to Dr Byron for giving us such an informative and inspiring evening.
